Work at MC office hampered
LUDHIANA: Owing to officers being busy on the VIP duty, visitors at the Municipal Corporation offices had to face a tough time on Tuesday as they had to return without getting their work being done.
While the senior officers left their offices with tubelights and fans switched on wasting energy as well, lower staff present did not know what to do in officials’ absence.
Despite the fact that there was an acute shortage of staff with fire brigade department, they had to depute four firemen along with two fire tenders for the VIP duty. The department said they had deputed the employees on Monday while the existing staff were performing duty for 12 hours continuously.
Sources added that the staff had been making the arrangements for the inauguration of various development projects for the last so many days, even on weekend. On Tuesday, three zonal commissioners, XENs and SDOs of operation and maintenance, and bridges and road departments, section engineers and several other employees had been deputed on the duty at several sites.
“It proved to be a tough task to trace the officers. I have been coming to the MC office for the last one week and there was a ray of hope that at least on Monday my work would be accomplished but it could not materialize even on Tuesday as the officers were not present in the office,” asserted Gurbaksh Singh, one of the city residents.
Talking on the similar lines, another resident Veena said that it was not at all justified to appoint the officers on special duty on working days. She further said that these politicians just wanted to grab the attention of the public but they forget that their visits created problems for the common man. However, the officials denied creating any kind of troubles for the public and refused from commenting on the issue.
