Getting birth, death certificates made easy

Soon, they will be issued at BangaloreOne centres
Bangalore: Citizens no longer have to wait in long queues and run from pillar to post to get a birth or death certificate anymore. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has begun to issue the birth and death certificates at no additional cost at its Citizen Service Centres.
Shankarappa, Joint Director (Statistics), told The Hindu that the civic authority had taken up a pilot project and linked around six hospitals with the BBMP’s registration unit. The project will enable people to procure birth and death certificates within a few minutes. Soon, the facility will be extended to BangaloreOne centres. He said under the new system, the hospitals enter the data into the system, which is then transferred to the BBMP registration unit through e-transferring with the help of a digital signature. This is then registered by the Medical Officer of Health and interlinked for access from any of the authorised centres. “This way, we can ensure 100 per cent registration of births and deaths and avoid mislink or loss of data,” he said. So far, there have been 64,000 online registrations of birth and 30,000 of death.
He said soon private hospitals would be linked to the BBMP’s registration unit. “We have directed the MOH concerned to hold a meeting with private hospitals and nursing homes. We have asked them to coordinate with superintendents of government hospitals, including Bowring and Lady Curzon, Victoria Hospital,” he said.
