HYDERABAD: The municipal elections scheduled for September are likely to be postponed by three to six months to facilitate Backward Class enumeration and to enable government extend 50 per cent reservation for women in local bodies.
The Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Anam Ramnarayan Reddy admitted that BC enumeration was still pending and government was also considering providing 50 per cent reservation to women in local bodies.
He however said a detailed report was sought on the status of BC enumeration.
Once the report was available, it would be reviewed and submitted to the Chief Minister. Meanwhile MA&UD was consulting with State Election Commission and sought opinion of Advocate General and Law Department before proceeding further on municipal elections, he said.
Meanwhile the Supreme Court passed a final order recently stating that BC reservation should be viewed as community-based reservation for giving political representation.
