Rains cut off colonies as GHMC, SCB fail to actHyderabad, Aug. 29: More than 2,000 families that live in and around the Sai Sagar Enclave, the Mansarovar Heights and Villas and other colonies near Trimulgherry have been facing the indifference of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials for around eight years.
Despite complaining several times to the GHMC and the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB), no action has been taken to solve the civic problems in the area for the last eight years. Certain areas of these colonies fall under the GHMC while others are part of the SCB.
In fact, the roads that lead to some of these colonies have been washed away and big craters have developed on the path, which make it difficult for motorists to ride along the road. In addition, many lanes and bylanes do not even have streetlights.
And, matters only get worse when it rains. Even a small amount of rain inundates the cellars and almost two feet of rainwater stagnates on the internal roads for hours together.
“When it rains, our families have to fend for themselves as servants can’t make it through the rain to reach our homes. Recently, due to the overflow of water on the streets motorists almost drowned but luckily they were rescued,” said Mr Mayank Khanna, a resident of Mansarovar Heights.
The drains also overflow and add to the mess.
