Hyderabad, Aug. 30: Justice Rohini of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday stayed for four weeks the finalising of the contract for installing streetlights in the limits of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
The judge was dealing with the petition filed by the Intemo Systems, contending that it submitted an application for the contract and offered to use technology which will facilitate saving of energy of Rs 8 crore per year.
However, the GHMC gave away the contract to a consortium without calling for tenders, said the petitioner.
HC dismisses plea on YSR’s son-in-law
The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday dismissed a writ petition seeking a direction to restrain the vernacular media from publishing and telecasting news reports against Mr. Anil Kumar, son-in-law of the late Chief Minister, Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy.
A division bench comprising of Chief Justice Nisar Ahmad Kakru and Justice Vilas V. Afzulpurkar was dealing with a petition filed by Legal Education and Action for Rural Poor (LEARP).
The petitioner contended that some Telugu newspapers and news channels had come out with baseless reports to tarnish the image of Mr Anil Kumar.
Notice to state on drug abuse cases
The AP High Court issued notices to the state government on a public interest litigation seeking a direction to the authorities to take stringent action against drug and liquor menace.
The court was dealing with a petition filed by Mr Venu Madhav, a practising advocate, who sought a direction to the authorities to start de-addiction centres, end sale of liquor and educate children on the perils of drug abuse.
Writ seeks media gag in copying case
The AP High Court on Monday adjourned hearing on a writ petition seeking a direction to the media not to repeatedly show the alleged sting operation wherein some judicial officers were seen copying while writing an examination.
Mr Nagesh and Mr Madhu filed the petition complaining that the media was unnecessarily repeating the telecast of the visuals and this will affect the judiciary.
Fertiliser ban order stayed in High Court
The Andhra Pradesh High Court Monday
stayed the order a single judge who had restrained the deep water port at Kakinada from handling fertilisers.
It was while dealing with a petition filed by barge workers that the judge had found fault with the decision of the state government in allowing the deepwater port to handle fertilisers.
The state government had filed an appeal against the orders on the single judge contending that the service was necessary.
