MCC removes only 31 tents out of 86
PNS | Chandigarh
Out of total 86 tents, pitched illegally across the city in the parks or on Municipal Corporation land, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MCC) has been able to remove only 31, MCC told the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday.
It was informed that various such illegal tents are that of the security personnel deputed for the Punjab politicians and the judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Placing a reply before the high court, MCC joint commissioner Lalit Siwach stated that the facts came after a survey was conducted by MCC and only 31 tents could be removed through a drive carried out by them.
It submitted that the remaining tents are that of the political leaders and the sitting judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and for their removal, the request letter has been written by Corporation to the principal secretaries of both the states and to the Registrar General of the high court for their relocation or removal.
Adding further, Siwach stated that though the Punjab government had responded to their communication on June 11 stating that requisite action would be taken at their end, the Punjab and Haryana High Court is yet to take a call. Going into the background, Justice Ranjit Singh on July 6, 2009 had taken suo motu cognizance and issued notice to the Chandigarh Administration asking them to conduct a survey to check illegal encroachment on government land or parks outside VVIP’s houses by the security staff. The case will now come up for further hearing on November 17.
