Frayed tempers: Corporators arguing over delay in developmental works at the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation general body meeting on Monday.
KARIMNAGAR: Heated arguments ensued between the ruling Congress and the Opposition parties over the delay in taking up developmental works such as laying of new roads and irregularities in the execution of underground drainage works at the general body meeting of Karimnagar Municipal Corporation here on Monday.
The municipal corporation general body, which would complete its term on September 29, had convened its last meeting and there was surprisingly good attendance of all the corporators of the town.
However, all the corporators have expressed their anguish because of unscientific execution of underground drainage works, which bought bad reputation to them during their tenure.
As soon as the meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Mayor D. Shankar and in the presence of Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar, who attended as ex-officio member, the opposition TDP corporators staged a protest by squatting in front of the podium over the delay in the execution of developmental works with the funds collected under the Building Penalisation Scheme (BPS) and Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS). The corporators said that they had strived very hard in collection of around Rs 12 crore funds under BPS and LRS programmes by motivating the local residents.
TRS corporator S. Ravinder Singh alleged that district in-charge Minister J. Krishna Rao is purposefully delaying the sanction of developmental works for collecting kickbacks. At this juncture, Congress corporator Y. Sunil Rao protested against the TRS corporator’s allegations against the Minister and both of them went on arguing over the issue. Later, other corporators pacified both the leaders. Later, Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar promised them to get sanctions for the developmental works and secure additional Rs. 12 crore developmental programmes in the town.
