3-fold pay hike for Mayor, corporators
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: Along with a proposal to hike salaries of the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and corporators, the Standing Committee of the GHMC on Wednesday will also be having a relook at the proposal to set up night shelters for destitutes.
The committee headed by Mayor B. Kartika Reddy had earlier rejected the night shelters proposal while expressing apprehensions on the safety and security aspect. Now, Commissioner Sameer Sharma and the Urban Community Department (UCD) wing brought the issue once again to the panel notice seeking reconsideration.
They have now suggested that unutilised and new community halls or buildings can be used for the purpose of night shelters as claimed to the Supreme Court. A comprehensive e-governance plan with funding from Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Scheme (JNNURM) is also part of the agenda.
Key issue for the meeting is the proposed salary hike by three times.
The Mayor’s pay is to be hiked to Rs. 42,000 a month from Rs. 14,000; Deputy Mayor’s to Rs. 24,000 a month from Rs. 8,000 and corporators to Rs. 12,000 from Rs. 4,000. Recently, the committee approved sanction of laptops and Internet connections costing nearly Rs. 1 crore.
