Incessant rain hits MCD field worksPNS | Dehradun
The non-stop rainfall in Dehradun has hampered the different routine field works being undertaken by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun. However, the official works of the MCD have not been hampered so far with a meeting of its working committee slated to be held on September 20.
Work undertaken by the MCD for maintenance of civic sanitation and repair of roads damaged by the heavy rains have been negatively affected by the incessant rainfall.
Presiding over a meeting with MCD officials during the weekend, Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli directed officials to draft proposals for executing patchwork in roads damaged by heavy rains after inspecting the damaged sites.
The cost of this patch work will be up to `1 lakh in each of the 60 municipal wards in town. However, sources state that even if the inspections are conducted and proposals are drafted in time, the patchwork could take time considering the fact that the region is forecast to receive intermittent rain in the coming week. The MCD, however, was able to clear drains in some areas as a result of some of the roads prone to water logging were not submerged following heavy rains. Many residential areas however, have continued to face the problem of water logging.
Besides, the sanitation work undertaken by the MCD has been suffered due to the heavy rain because the garbage dumped in waste containers is being carried away from the site. The frequency of waste being dumped by the municipal containers to the trenching ground at Sahastradhara Road has also decreased due to the opposition of those residing in the area and the fact that this trenching ground has long ago been filled to its maximum capacity. With waste not being removed from dumping sites across town, a substantial proportion of this waste is being carried away in drains which in turn are being blocked by the garbage.
