DAVANGERE: Employees of the Davangere City Corporation withdrew their strike on Monday after Deputy Mayor Pushpa Duggesh withdrew the atrocity case filed against Commissioner of the corporation Prasanna Kumar. Deputy Superintendent of Police S.S. Naik, along with a few other senior officers, had gone to the Mayor’s office and recorded the statement of the Deputy Mayor. The Deputy Mayor reportedly told him that would withdraw her complaint. The Deputy Superintendent of Police had recorded her statement and he is expected to submit his report to the court in a day or two.
After ascertaining the fact that the Deputy Mayor withdrew the case against the Commissioner, employees of the corporation reported back to duty.
Mayor Vasantha Kumar, Leader of the Opposition in the Council Dinesh Shetty, union leaders Badagi Krishnappa, L.M. Hanumanthappa, Govindaraju, Veerappa, and senior councillors were present.
Later, speaking to presspersons Mr. Shetty said that filing “false cases” against officers would not demoralise officials but would also discourages them from coming to Davangere.
The Commissioner, who had applied for three days leave after the atrocity case was filed, is expected to return to Davangere on Tuesday.
He had sought anticipatory bail following the complaint against him.
