SHIMOGA: Residents of the Ravindra Nagar laid siege to the office of the Shimoga City Municipal Council protesting against the lack of cleanliness in their area.
The protesters, including women, squatted on the steps leading to the main office and raised slogans against the municipal authorities for their failure to clean the area. They said heaps of garbage had veritably turned their area into a slum.
The drains got choked as they were filled with grass. This caused the rainwater to enter the houses in the area. City Municipal Council president K.S. Gangadharappa received the memorandum from the protesters and assured that the issues raised by them would be addressed immediately. He said there was no dearth of cleaning staff to maintain cleanliness in the city.
Ravindra Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association president Somasekhar, honorary president Shamsundar Shetty and secretary S.G. Shankar led the demonstration.
