We will soon write to Bangalore Electricity Supply Company: Siddaiah
Bangalore: Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner Siddaiah will soon write to Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) to shift the transformers on the footpaths in Jayanagar Assembly constituency that were posing inconvenience to pedestrians.
During an inspection of the constituency carried out by Mayor S.K. Nataraj, BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah, MLA B.N. Vijayakumar and a few councillors on Saturday, the legislator pointed out that there were more than 150 transformers on the footpaths in the constituency. This, he said, was causing inconvenience to pedestrians.
He urged Mr. Siddaiah to write to Bangalore Electricity Supply Company and ask it to shift the transformers to a single-pole transformer, which will not occupy much space on the footpaths.
The Commissioner agreed and said that it costs around Rs. 2.5 lakh to shift the transformers. He said he would write to Bescom Managing Director soon. The BBMP and Bescom could share the cost of shifting the transformers, he added. During his inspection of the Jayanagar Shopping Complex, he found that the lift that was installed around a year ago was not functioning. He was informed that as the BBMP had failed to pay Rs. 6 lakh to the agency concerned, the lift was not completely installed.
He directed the Chief Accounts Officer to immediately release the funds and directed officials concerned to complete the work in two days.
Mr. Siddaiah found that small advertisements had been nailed to almost 90 per cent of the trees. He directed the Deputy Conservator of Forest to remove the advertisements and the officials concerned to impose a penalty on the agencies which had put up the advertisements.
The BBMP engineers had constructed drains with a rainwater harvesting facility on Jayanagar 4 {+t} {+h} T Block, 9 {+t} {+h} Main and J.P. Nagar 8 {+t} {+h} Main Road. The Commissioner directed them to extend it to other parts of the city also.
Meanwhile, unhappy over the lack of implementation of his directives, Mr. Siddaiah has issued a circular with guidelines for all BBMP Executive Engineers.
