Chairmen of Standing Committees ask for new cars
The Opposition parties were silenced when the ruling party decided to hold the elections for the standing committees and elected the chairmen for the same. But the new inductees are making themselves more than comfortable in their positions and allegedly have asked for new cars. Taking a cue from the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, sources claim that the 12 corporators are demanding new rides.
Mayor S K Nataraj and Deputy Mayor Dayanand had asked for new cars costing about `25 lakhs when they assumed power. But they decided to drop the idea as they came in for considerable criticism from all quarters. This was not the end as both of them brought new Toyota Altis cars recently. Now the committee chairmen are following no one but their leaders in pursuing a smooth ride, even though nothing has been done to ease the suffering of the public.
Many of the committee members are not even aware of what their committees mean, but are not shying away from asking for new cars. If sources are to be believed, then the chairmen too could get themselves new cars, costing nearly `10 lakh per car for a total of 12 members. The Palike is suffering due to the loans that it has raised in the past few years. It may take a few more years to make their standing committee chairmen a happy bunch.
