BBMP wants trip to Germany to accept help
BANGALORE: Two delegates from Germany to the city were in for a surprise when all they had hoped to do was help the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahangara Palike (BBMP).
The delegation had proposed to set up a Solid Waste Management facility for free in the city and in return was asked to first take the Mayor and the standing committee chairmen of the palike to Germany to see what they were proposing to do.
FemerMte, a company in Germany, held a presentation for the Mayor, the standing committee chairmen, commissioner and other officials of the Palike where they proposed to set up a `350crore plant at no cost to the Palike.
They said they would take the garbage produced in the Palike and convert into electricity. It has been successfully implemented the same in Magdeburg, Germany.
They said they would make money by selling the generated electricity to the Palike for either lighting of street lights or other purposes.
But the audience was in no mood to save some of the limited cash reserves of the Palike and proposed to see the installation in Germany. They asked the German delegation to first invite the members of the audience to Germany to help them make a more informed decision.
