LDF councillors to head six City Corporation standing committees

Thiruvananthapuram: Left Democratic Front councillors were elected chairpersons of six of the eight standing committees in the Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation while the United Democratic Front bagged one on Thursday.
While the CPI(M) heads four committees, its coalition partners, the RSP and Congress(S), chair one committee each. The standing committees on Development, Town Planning, Health and Education will be headed by women.
Deputy Mayor G. Happikumar (CPI) is the ex officio chairman of the standing committee on Finance.
The UDF is getting the post of standing committee chairperson in the City Corporation after 17 years.
The following are the chairpersons elected by the standing committee members at the Corporation Council meeting on Thursday: Development – Shajitha Nazer (CPI-M); Works – V.S. Padmakumar (CPI-M); Health – S. Pushpalatha (CPI-M); Welfare – Palayam Rajan (Congress-S); Education – K.S. Sheela (CPI-M); Taxes and Appeals – P. Syamkumar (RSP) and Town Planning – Vanaja Rajendra Babu (Congress).
