PCMC to give cash awards, scholarships to medal winners
PUNE: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) proposes to give cash awards and scholarships to sportspersons from the Pimpri-Chinchwad township and Pune district, who have bagged medals at international or national competitions.
These and other changes are proposed to be made in the sports policy of the PCMC.
Addressing a news conference, Pimpri-Chinchwad mayor Yogesh Behl said, “These changes are proposed to give encouragement to sportspersons from the PCMC limits and the district. This policy will be sent to the civic general body for final approval. Disciplines that are included in the Olympics, Asian games, Commonwealth Games and are recognised internationally will be eligible for financial assistance or scholarships.”
Games like chess or carom are not part of the Olympics, hence sportspersons playing these games would not be eligible for financial assistance from the PCMC.
The winners of the national and international events have to apply to the PCMC in the prescribed format. The filled application form has to be submitted only through the state/national level sports organisations. Financial assistance or scholarships will be given in the same year or the year after the sportsperson wins the medal.
The sportsperson has to be a resident of the PCMC limits or Pune district for atleast five years and will get financial assistance or scholarship only once in a financial year.
The PCMC has prepared a list of 29 sports disciplines which are eligible to get financial assistance or scholarships.
