CHENNAI: Two buildings in the city and a suburban area were sealed on Monday for violations.
A release from the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA)
said the owner of a building bearing new door No.10, old door No.5, Dr.
Rathinasabapathy Street, Tondiarpet, obtained planning permission on
March 31, 2009 from the Chennai Corporation for construction of a stilt
floor plus two floors residential building.
But, the building, under construction now, has stilt floor (part),
ground floor (part) plus three floors and fourth floor built in part.
This is in deviation to the approved plan and has violations pertaining
to additional floors, road width, parking and floor space index.
It was locked and sealed according to the provisions of Sections 56
and 57 of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1971, the release said.
Another building on Yadaval Street in Padi, coming under the
jurisdiction of Ambattur Municipality, was also locked and sealed by the
officials of the Town Planning Department of the local body.
An official said the owner of the building had obtained approval in
2008 to construct a residential building with ground floor plus first
floor. However, the building has an additional floor and it had been
converted into a commercial one.
The local body had served a notice a month ago about the deviations
and asked the owner to demolish the additional floor. As there was no
response, the building was sealed.
