Commissioner comes out with solution for drainage problem
K. Venkateswarlu, Commissioner of the Eluru Municipal Corporation (EMC),
on Tuesday offered a permanent solution to the drainage problem in
Shanti Nagar area under 22nd division in the city. He was speaking at a
meeting of the representatives of various colonies in 22nd and 24th
divisions here.
He said the corporation had set apart Rs 1 crore for
improvement of drains in the city. The participants brought to the
Commissioner’s notice about the roads in bad condition.
The residents of Shanti Nagar complained that the open
drainage system in their colony was exposing them to serious health
hazards. Jillellamudi Narasimha Rao, an activist, expressed his serious
displeasure over the alleged laxity on the part of the EMC in attending
civic problems in the city. The Commissioner, however, said the official
machinery was striving hard for improvement of civic amenities in the
city. B.V. Bhadrudu, president of the Postal Colony Residents Welfare
Association, complained that the people in their colony were fed up with
open defecation on the bunds of the Krishna-Eluru canal. He urged the
administration to take strong measures against the menace.
