Issue of BBMP panels’ term to be decided in a week
The fate of 11 Standing Committees of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike
(BBMP) will be decided in a week’s time, said Minister for Urban
Development S. Suresh Kumar here on Sunday.
His comments come in the backdrop of the confusion over
the term of the 11 Standing Committees, which were formed in November
2010, six months after the election of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
Speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of a programme
organised to inaugurate a mini-drinking water supply scheme, he said
that as per law, the election to the Standing Committees is to be held
the same day the new Mayor is elected.
The one-year term of Mayor S.K. Nataraj comes to an end
on April 23. Except the Standing Committee for Taxation and Finance,
which was formed in June, the election to the other committees was held
only in November.
Earlier, along with MP P.C. Mohan, he inaugurated four
water tanks at Karekallu, S.K. Colony, Harijan Colony and Kamakshipalya
Old Village. He assured the residents of the area, who have been living
there for around 30 years, of ensuring that they get title deeds (hakku
patras).
Mr. Mohan, who spoke after inaugurating the
mini-drinking water supply scheme, said that drinking water shortage
plagued the areas (Karekallu, S.K. Colony, Harijana Colony and
Kamakshipalya Old Village).
He said that the four water tanks have been constructed at a cost of Rs. 8 lakh from the MP Funds.
Kamakshipalya councillor K. Ranganna spoke.
