‘Pay-and-park facilities needed at busy locations’
PUNE: Members of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC)
standing committee have demanded that pay-and-park facilities be started
at important busy locations in the city. The issue of parking facilities was raised at the standing committee meeting on Tuesday.
Chairman of the standing committee Jagdish Shetty said that members
pointed out that people face parking problems at major chowks which
often see vehicles parked around haphazardly. The members said that safe
places for parking need to be provided at some of the busy locations in
the city. They have suggested that such facilities be developed near
the Chinchwadgaon flyover, Bhosari flyover and Babasaheb Ambedkar chowk
in Pimpri.
Shetty said that the civic panel members also
expressed displeasure over the slow progress of the construction of the
Empire Estate flyover. The members have demanded that action be taken to
speed up the work. Shrikant Savane, executive engineer, PCMC, replied
that around 10 to 15 notices have been issued to the contractor to speed
up the work, but there has been no improvement. He added that several
meetings have been held with the contractor’s officials and action will
be taken against the contractor as per provisions of the contract.
