1,105 interior roads to be relaid soon
Corporation of Chennai will begin relaying of 1,105
interior roads at a cost of Rs. 100 crore this month. The total length
of the roads is 245.1 km.
Tender for bituminous roads
with plastic content has been floated and bids will be opened on August
10. After the Corporation Council’s approval this month, the civic body
has planned to intensify road re-laying work before the onset of
northeast monsoon.
Alandur zone will be the largest
beneficiary with Rs. 11.37 crore allocated for relaying interior roads
in the area. Newly-added areas such as Tiruvottiyur, Manali, Madhavaram,
Perungudi and Sholinganallur are other major beneficiaries.
All
zones in the old city limits except Anna Nagar will be covered under
the work. Anna Nagar, however, will have more cement concrete roads.“We will complete the roads that require immediate attention before the monsoon,” said a senior official of Chennai Corporation.
The
work on 1,084 cement concrete roads, at a cost of Rs. 90 crore, will
begin a few weeks later as the work can be carried out even during the
monsoon, the official said.The date of opening of bids for cement concrete roads has not been finalised.
