Encroachments cleared in Pudukottai
Thatched structures, unauthorised hoardings and
publicity materials and other projections were cleared on the Sri
Santhanathaswamy Sannidhi Street here on Monday. Municipal workers
cleared the encroachments during the operation that lasted for about
three hours.
R.Murugesan, Municipal Commissioner, who
inspected the eviction, said that all the encroachments in all major
streets and thoroughfares in the town would be cleared in a phased
manner and the operation would continue for a few more days.He sought the cooperation of the public and traders for smooth clearing of encroachments.
Clearing of plastics
The
official also said that the municipality has planned to give a facelift
to the Pudukulam, a major water spread area in the town. It has been a
recreation centre for children and a number of morning and evening
walkers also benefited through its sprawling space. The area was plagued
with plastic and hence the municipality has chalked out a plan for its
proper maintenance. In the first phase, the plastic would be cleared on
Thursday jointly by the municipality, walkers and college students, he
said.
