PMC sets Sep 7 deadline for CCTVs at key spots
The civic body on Tuesday decided to make CCTVs mandatory at all public places in the city by September 7.
Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Phatak said that orders have to be
adhered to by all shopping malls, cinema halls, commercial buildings,
shops, company offices, auditoriums, markets, religious structures,
hotels, important tourist attractions, exclusive business buildings and
historical buildings.
According to the directions, the owners of these buildings have
to install CCTVs that will have recordings of at least a month. The
commissioner has also directed the owners to submit report to ward
officers regarding the installation of the CCTVs.
The civic body had recently given approval to the Development
Control (DC) rule amendment which makes the installation of CCTV cameras
at public places mandatory. The amendment also seeks to bring about
changes in commercial structures to improve fire safety and security on
premises.
The standing committee of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)
approved funds of Rs 7.5 crore for installation of CCTV cameras in the
city on Tuesday. The Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Sunday had
announced funds of Rs 30 crore for installing CCTVs in Pune and
Pimpri-Chinchawad to strengthen security.
