Neighbourhood stores to soon come up in 15 sectors of Noida
NOIDA: The Noida Authority
has unveiled new plans to establish neighbourhood convenience stores so
that there is at least one such unit serving the needs of residents in
every residential sector. For starters, 15 sectors have been shortlisted and the planning department is trying to earmark the plots and design layout plans for the facilities.
The sectors were chosen after officials conducted a survey to identify
areas where there were no facility centres or market complexes and
residents had to travel long distances to procure basic items for their
needs. Noida CEO, Sanjeev Saran, has proposed that in future all new and
developing sectors should have these basic-need commodity outlets and
the plan should be incorporated in the layout of the area at the
planning stage.

The proposed retail premises will be used for
selling daily convenience goods like foodstuffs, personal care products,
newspapers, etc and may include some ancillary services.

The
proposed commercial outlets will be setup in Sectors 43, 45, 46, 50, 70,
71, 72, 82, 93, 99, 100, 117, 119, 122 and 168. At present, there are
no grocery shops, Mother Dairy outlets, fruit and vegetable vends, etc
in these sectors. In absence of these shops, residents have to travel
5-8 kilometres to even buy basic grocery items.

According to AK Goel, the chief maintenance engineer
(civil), the planning department has also been instructed to soon
prepare a project report for the commercial centre scheme in a time
bound manner so that the process of developing shops can begin. “Layout
of these shops will be of international standards,” said Goel. “These
shops will be simplified versions of ‘everything-stores’ that attempt to
streamline shopping by selling groceries, pharmaceuticals and general
merchandise and cater to a localized area,” the official added.
