Civic body to impose 10% water cut from today
NASHIK: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) is all set to apply 10% water cut across the city daily from Friday, and a dry day every Tuesday.
The civic body’s exercise also includes checking for any irregularities
in the water connections or wastage to conserve as much water as it
can.
Municipal commissioner Sanjay Khandare said all the
irregularities will be checked for future provisions, although there was
enough water in the reservoirs to last till the end of June or the
beginning of July.
Speaking about the position of the water
supply, in charge superintending engineer of water supply and sewage
department of NMC U B Pawar said the corporation lifts 380-390 million
litres per day (MLD) of water every day from the Gangapur group of dams,
that is, 13-13.5 million cubic feet (mcft) daily.
“If we cut
10% of the water supply for a day, we can save almost 1.3 mcft daily,
which is 30 mcft per month. We complete water supply cut on Tuesdays, we
can save 13.5 mcft every Tuesday, that is, 52 mcft per month. The total
water saved from 10% water cut and once-a-week water cut would thus be
82 mcft per monthThis exercise would save 350 mcft water over a period
of 4.5 months, which is close to a month’s requirement of water in the
city. Presently, we have sufficient water supply till July 15. This
water saving exercise could save water till August 15,” added Pawar.
