ULB polls: 726 candidates in fray in Bidar
Thirty-seven candidates withdrew their nominations for
elections to the urban local bodies (ULBs) in the district on Wednesday,
the last day to do so.
Now, 726 candidates will contest for 149 seats in six ULBs in the district.
Nine
aspirants for the Bidar City Municipal Council have withdrawn their
nominations, leaving 203 people in the fray. There are 35 members in the
CMC.
Basavakalyan CMC has 169 candidates, with the
seats being 31. Chitaguppa has 109 aspirants (five withdrew), Bhalki 78
(seven withdrew) and Humnabad 108 (four withdrew), fighting for 23 seats
in each of the town municipal councils.
After 10 candidates withdrew, Aurad Town Panchayat has 58 leaders aspiring to join the 14-member house.
As many as 834 aspirants had filed nominations for these bodies. Officials had rejected 71 nominations during scrutiny earlier.
Polling is scheduled for March 7. Counting will be held in taluk centres on March 11.
There
are 2,41,854 voters in urban areas in the district. Of the 281 polling
stations, 107 have been declared sensitive and 85 very sensitive.
