GURGAON: The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon
(MCG) has renewed its efforts to make the Sadar Bazar area
encroachment-free. While earlier too it had made similar attempts which
did not yielded much result, the authorities claim that this time
around, a visible impact can be seen since the local traders have
promised to help in the anti-encroachment drive.

Municipal
commissioner Ashok Sangwan held a meeting in this regard with the
enforcement team officials, local traders, police officials and the area
councillors on Thursday. According to officials, the anti-encroachment drive
will begin next week. “We are planning to launch the drive from
Tuesday, and we will remove all encroachments that are found inside the
market as well as on the periphery. The reason for not starting the
drive immediately is to give some time to the traders and hawkers to
remove the encroachments themselves. The commissioner does not want
anybody to incur loss due to the anti-encroachment drive and has
therefore given time to remove the encroachments. If they fail to do so,
we will have to demolish them,” said a spokesperson.

The
traders too seem to be happy about the drive. “I feel that the present
mess and congestion prevailing in the bazaar is due to some traders
renting out area outside their shops to hawkers,” said KL Pahwa, a
trader.
