In a bid to check unauthorised construction in Chennai Metropolitan
Area, Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) on Wednesday
locked and sealed two buildings at Neelankarai and Perungudi for
violating section 56 and 57 of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1971.
CMDA
member secretary R Venkatesan said the building on 3rd cross street
located at the junction of Singaravelan Salai was sealed as the stilt
floor (partially built), ground floor (partially built) plus three
floors were unauthorised. He said a stop work notice was issued by CMDA
on December 17.
“Despite the notice, the building work was
proceeding, hence a lock and seal notice was issued on February 5. As
the owner did not comply with the notice and continued the construction,
the premises were locked and sealed,” he added.
Similarly,
another building at Seevaram village in Perungudi industrial estate on
Rajiv Gandhi Salai was sealed for violating the plan. The owner has
obtained planning permission from executive officer, Perungudi Town
Panchayat, for the construction of stilt floor plus two floors for an
automobile electronic components manufacturing unit but constructed a
commercial building with stilt plus two floors and third floor partially
constructed. A stop work notice was issued on January 3, 2013. Despite
the notice, the building work was going on; as such the unauthorised
third floor of the building was sealed, he said in a release.
