Vellore Mayor P Karthiyayini along with corporation officials
inspected tanks at Palavansathu and Otteri here on Saturday following
complaints from local councillors about drainage discharge into
Palavansathu tank.

Councillor of ward 42, G Anbu, during the
council meeting on Friday, complained about the contamination of the
Palavansathu tank and pointed out that the residents of Ezhil Nagar and
Avvai Nagar had complaints of itching. He claimed that the tank had been
contaminated from the discharge of drainage lines from areas like
Virupatchipuram. The sewage lines of the newly constructed houses in
these areas run into the rain water drain line that flowed into the
tank, he noted.

On Saturday Mayor Karthiyayini with others
inspected the tanks and assured them that they would divert the drainage
line. They said steps would be taken to desilt the tank. The officials
also visited Otteri tank in Ward 44. Councillor G Shanmugham said that
the tank had gone dry, to which the officials said corrective steps
would be taken.
