Tirupur Corpn. to conduct book fairs
For book lovers, the Tirupur Corporation is planning to come out with a ‘tonic for thought’.
Mayor
Visalakshi Appukutty, while listing out some of the initiatives planned
to be rolled out for the citizens, said the administration had decided
to explore the possibilities of either organising round-the-year book
exhibitions or create ‘book joints’ to help the people get latest
collection of books.
The idea has come to the
administration as enthusiasm among the people for books was found to be
increasing in the recent times in the city.
However,
the residents did not have many opportunities to get good publications
in their ‘backyard’ with many of them travelling as far as to Coimbatore
to purchase good books.
Another major step would be
the Corporation’s move to promote solar energy in a big way during
2013-14 and thereby, overcome the power crisis to a great extent.
Ms.
Visalakshi said it was planned to install solar panels and other
necessary gadgets to operate fans in select Corporation offices and
schools at an outlay of Rs. 1.5 crore.
“Under first
phase, Corporation main office, Jaiva Bhai Corporation Girls Higher
Secondary School and Zones-1 and 3 offices would be covered,” she added.
To
improve recreational facilities, the Corporation has plans to set up 10
more parks across the city and improve the facilities in existing
parks.
“The works will commence once the necessary sanctions are obtained,” Corporation officials said.
