GVMC seeks efficient water management plan
A stringent audit on water supply and energy use, and a
comprehensive plan on the present supply, deficit and additional
requirement projected for future use are essential for an efficient
water management system for the city, Municipal Commissioner M.V.
Satyanarayana said.
He was speaking at a workshop on integrated water supply organised by TERI at GVMC on Tuesday.
Besides,
augmenting supply by replacing old pipelines, de-silting of reservoirs
and water conservation were essential, he said. With the present
expenditure on supply working out to be more than revenue, a
comprehensive plan keeping in view the needs for the next two decades
and funding were key to meeting the water requirements, he felt. CDIA
South Asia Co-ordinator Paul Schuttenbelt said attention would be paid
on new technical know-how and desalination. Senior Programme Manager B.
Elangovan underlining the growing importance of the city said future
needs would be taken into account while preparing plans.
Associate
Director (Water Resources) of TERI Anshuman made a presentation on the
expenditure, revenue and loopholes collated on the basis of information
and statistics provided by GVMC officials.

Ray Burman gave details of financial requirement and estimates.
Vivekanand Honnungar gave details of the schemes proposed.
