Dear Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon, practise what you preach on house tax
of Gurgaon (MCG) is sending notices to residents asking them to pay
property tax, it appears that the corporation’s own dues under the same
header are running into lakhs of rupees.
The list of addresses
against which house tax is pending since 2008 include MCG commissioner’s
residence, deputy commissioner’s office and police commissioner’s
office. All the properties are located in Civil Lines area. The last
date for submitting the tax was on April 28, 2013.
While the
tax amount due against the police commissioner’s office is Rs4,61,381,
its is Rs59,925 against the MCG commissioner’s residence and Rs12,43,601
against the deputy commissioner’s residence.
According to sources, there are many other big and small time politicians in the city who have never bothered to pay house tax.
“While the state government has to pay property tax on behalf of the
bureaucrats, there are certain politicians of the ruling party who have
not bothered to pay this tax for over three years. Yet we can’t do much
about it. We can only hope that they clear the dues before June 30,”
said an official.
When contacted, the MCG joint commissioner
Anju Chaudhary played it down saying that the residents also have time
till June 30 to pay the property tax: “I don’t remember the names or
addresses of people who have to still pay property tax. However, the
deadline has been extended and everyone must the tax by June 30”.
