Desiltation campaign in East Corpn

Today East Corporation Mayor, Mr Ram Narayan Dubey said,
“East Corporation is preparing itself for the monsoon. Wherein to
ensure proper and timely desilting of drains before the monsoon, elected
representatives and senior functionaries of the Corporation will begin a
15-day inspection campaign of desiltation works which will continue
till the completion of work. The desiltation of drains for the monsoon
season will be completed by May 31.”

According to the Mayor, the
desiltaion work had begun on April 1. Provision of pumps at vulnerable
points and establishing control rooms which would work round the clock
is being made.

 Chairman, Standing Committee, Mr Sanjay Surjan,
informed that under East Corporation jurisdiction, there are 244 drains
which are more than 4 feet deep and wide. “They are being desilted by
the Engineering Department with the assistance of JCB, bobcat machine,
pocklain machine and truck loader. A total of 465 drains are less than 4
feet deep and wide, which are being cleaned under the supervision of
area sanitation inspectors using departmental resources. All covered
drains are being desilted with the help of super sucker machines.
Desilting of street gratings and bellmouths on roads is being done by
sanitation staff,” he said.

These included Railway Pull, Near Sabzi Mandi, J J Buland Masjid, Saboli Khadda and Meet Nagar in Shahdara (North).

In
Shahdara (South), the identified areas are near Dullupura temple,
Railway Colony, Mandawali, Mukesh Nagar Kaccha Nala and Transit Camp,
Khichdipur. Arrangements have been made to meet the situation of
waterlogging by the department staff and pump sets, added the official.

 Leader
of House, Mr B B Tyagi, said that a 24X7 helpline number “155303” will
be active from June 15 to deal with the problem of waterlogging. In East
Delhi, there are 21 permanent pumping stations.

To tackle
waterlogging, 100 portable pumps are available which will be stationed
at identified areas. Control rooms of both the Zones in the area,
Shahdara (South) and (North), will have five each portable pumps to act
on the complaints received on the helpline, said Mr Tyagi.

Couple of
days back the North and South Corporations had held a meeting where they
accepted that the desilting is a serious issue which has been discussed
but the outcome is not good as the media never highlighted the issues.

Hence this year the Corporation has decided to take extraordinary step for solving the problem.
