Dy Mayor for incorporation of councillors’ views in Master Plan
some of the issues staring at the face of Ranchiites which the newly
elected Deputy Mayor of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC), Sanjeev
Vijayvargiya vowed to find solution to in the first meeting of the
councillors.
Vijayvargiya, who assumed office on May 15, has called a meeting of RMC
board members on May 22 to discuss issues concerning the people of
Ranchi, including the Ranchi Master Plan 2037.
Significantly, the Deputy Mayor insisted on incorporating the
objections and viewpoints of the councillors in the draft plan for
Ranchi and sought extension of the deadline for submitting objections to
the draft. “The officers and company officials don’t know anything
about Ranchi. However, instead of rejecting the plan we will pass it by
making some vital changes in it,” added Vijayvargiya.
Interestingly, the Deputy Mayor downplayed the absence of a Mayor
affecting the work of RMC in any way and said, “A Deputy Mayor can work
even in the absence of a Mayor.”
It requires not less than a miracle to find solution to the endemic
problems like scarcity of water, frequent power-cuts and tons of
stinking garbage piled up everywhere.
“Water & electricity are my primary concern and it will be
discussed with the councillors and authorities in the first meeting of
the RMC board. We will see how we can improve the situation,” said
Vijayvargiya.
The A2Z, a waste management company, may have its wings clipped for the
utter mis-management of waste in the city which has caused discontent
among the public and councillors alike.
“The company’s performance in last couple of months has gone from bad
to worse and it is time to take the matter seriously,” added the Deputy
Mayor.
Incidentally, Vijayvarigya had suggested roping in several agencies for
waste management instead of awarding the job to a single firm.
The municipal body that is known for its unsavoury reputation for
turning a blind eye to people’s problem calls for an image makeover, a
fact accepted by the Deputy Mayor also. “From what I have seen so far I
can say the system needs to be completely overhauled to make it more
effective and people friendly,” said Vijayvargiya.
Vijayvargiya who has won for second time in a row from ward-10 feels
that there is lot needs to be done to make Ranchi a better place.
