Amma Unavagams to be inaugurated this week

Open a canteen at government hospital, says BJP.
The city residents are gearing up to welcome the proposed 10 Amma Unavagams that are expected to be inaugurated this week.
With
the affordable canteens seen as a big hit in Chennai that has 132
canteens, the Chief Minister announced 10 such canteens for each
corporation. Work is nearing completion for the construction of three
canteens and renovating the seven other existing buildings for running
the canteens.
On Saturday, Corporation Commissioner
M. Ashokan along with officials inspected the construction activities
and asked officials to expedite the works.
He also asked officials to provide separate toilet facility for men and women near the canteens and also maintain sanitation.
He
said that the canteens would have sufficient place for customers to sit
and have food and also facility for recharging their mobile batteries.
“All
the works should be completed by Monday so that trial run of the
canteen could be carried out,” he said. The Chief Minister was expected
to inaugurate the canteens through videoconferencing this week.
The
canteens were expected to serve the downtrodden and the
labour-intensive industries in the city and its surrounding areas as
thousands of people throng the city for their daily work.
The
district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party had already requested the
corporation and the civic body to open a canteen at Government Mohan
Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital as it would benefit over 10,000
patients and visitors to the hospital every day.
