Bangalore wastes 80 p.c. of Cauvery water, says former Mayor
Former Bangalore Mayor P.R. Ramesh has said that 80 per
cent of the water supplied to the city from the Cauvery is being wasted
and only 20 per cent is actually being consumed.
Attributing
the wastage to excess usage in construction sites, pilferage from water
lines, leakages and simply bad plumbing, Mr. Ramesh sought to present
an alternative that could be sustainable in the long run.
He
told presspersons here on Monday that out of the 500 million litre per
day(mld) of water that the city receives, only 10 mld is consumed.
Unused water should be diverted lakes in the city, he said.
Rivers
“The rivers Hemavathi and Netravati can [also] be used to store up water,” Mr. Ramesh said.
