Vellore Corporation had identified three community halls at the newly
added areas of Virupatchipuram, Palavasathu and Allapuram, to lease it
out on contract.

The identified community halls are located at
Punniyakodi Mudaliyar Street, Bharathiyar Nagar and Thirukural Nagar
belonging to Zone-3  of the corporation.

These community halls
were originally maintained by the previous local bodies when
Virupatchipuram and Palavansathu were village panchayats and allapuram
was a town panchayat.

After the areas were added to the Vellore
Corporation one-and-a-half years ago, the former local bodies had handed
over the facilities to the corporation. These areas were divided into
ward 41, 42 and 44 of the Corporation at present.

“The facilities
are not being maintained by the Corporation, the local residents are
maintaining and using them as of now,” Councillor of ward 44, G
Shanmugam said.

The Corporation has now planned to invite tenders
to maintain the facilities for three years. A resolution in this
connection was passed at the recently held Corporation council meeting.
