The High Court on Thursday dismissed a writ petition seeking
reservation for Schedule Tribe (ST) councillors in the Bruhat Bangalore
Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
The court observed that the period for which the reservation was sought had elapsed.
Justice
H N Nagamohan Das observed that the petition was filed seeking
reservations for Mayor and Deputy Mayor posts for 2012-13. The
petitioner is at liberty to file a fresh petition, the judge noted.
In
2012, Lokesh Naik and Indira had filed a petition seeking reservation
for Scheduled Tribes in the roster system for electing the Mayor and
Deputy Mayor.
