Corporation to prevent inflow of sewage into Big Tank
The Coimbatore Corporation will explore ways and means to prevent the inflow of sewage into the Big Tank.
According
to sources in the civic body, following an interaction between
representatives of organisations that cleaned the Big Tank and the Mayor
S.M. Velusamy, the latter had asked officials to see how the sewage
could be prevented from polluting the water in the Tank. One way it
could be done was by diverting the sewage from Selvapuram and
residential colonies north of the Tank to the underground sewerage
system so that the sewage reached the sewage treatment plant at Ukkadam.
The
sources said that the Corporation was also planing to remove
encroachments along the Big Tank, fence the Tank bund, plant saplings on
the bund, lay a footpath and create parking facilities. The Siruthuli
had engaged a consultant to beautify the Big Tank.
