Rat snake lays eggs in captivity
A rat snake in the Coimbatore Corporation Zoo has laid
12 eggs. According to sources, the snake laid the eggs a couple of days
ago and they were kept for incubation.
The eggs would
remain in an enclosure for 70 days, the incubation period. The
enclosure’s base would be filled with earth and hay and from the roof, a
bulb would be left dangling to maintain the temperature at
30{+0}Centigrade.
Once the hatchlings venture out,
they would remain in the zoo for about a week and then the officials
with help from the Forest Department release them in the wild.
Dogs vaccinated
The
Coimbatore Corporation with help from Rotary Club and the Animal Birth
Control Centre in Seeranaickenpalayam had thus far vaccinated 3,061
dogs. And the Centre had so far performed animal birth control operation
on 15,000 dogs, said a release from the civic body. The Corporation was
taking all possible efforts to control street dog menace and operating
open the dogs and sterilising them were the only options available.
