UT admin to identify dog pound site
site for a dog pound on the outskirts of the city. The site already
identified in Dhanas is likely to be cancelled due to its proximity to
the residential area.
A discussion on the issue was held in the meeting of the
co-ordination committee between the UT administration and municipal
corporation on Tuesday where Mayor Subhash Chawla demanded land be
allocated for the construction of a dog pound away from residential
areas.
The administration has meanwhile asked the municipal corporation to list the functions the dog pound would serve.
The Mayor further demanded that anti-rabies vaccines be made
available at all government dispensaries. Presently, the subsidised
vaccine is available only at the Sector 19 dispensary.
Also, the demand for fencing the burial ground for children was
raised again. The corporation demanded a boundary wall be constructed
around the burial ground as there have been several instances when
bodies of children have been dug out by stray animals. The area where
the boundary wall is to be set up comes under forest land leading to
many hurdles.
Additionally, corporation officials told the administration that
of the 600 meters installed on streetlights, 450 were not working.
As a result, the civic body was paying an average bill despite many streetlights not working.
It was further demanded the bus queue shelters be transferred to the municipal corporation.
The Mayor stated the bus shelters were not properly maintained, and remained a grouse with many councillors.
