New GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar appears to be fine-tuning the
functioning of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation which often comes
under criticism.
At a review meeting on the redress of grievances
of GHMC employees in the East Zone office here on Thursday, Shanthamma,
an office subordinate working in the zone, complained to the
commissioner that she had been made to run from pillar to post for
availing GPF advance for the past three months.
Stunned over the
delay, the commissioner directed the financial adviser and examiner of
accounts of the zone to hand over the cheque to the aggrieved party by
evening and warned them that failure to do so will result in strict
action against the erring officials.
Fearing action the account
officials promptly prepared the cheque in a matter of a few hours.
Later, in the evening, Kumar handed over the cheque to Shanthamma.
The
commissioner said that the purpose of the meeting was to solve the
grievances of the corporation’s employees on priority. He said GHMC
functions 24×7 and it is the moral responsibility of the officers to
look into the grievances of their colleagues too.
Kumar patiently
heard all the grievances and directed the additional commissioner
(administration) to personally monitor issues like promotions,
transfers, service matters, staff requirement and issuance of materials
like soaps and oils to the employees.
He also directed the
official to conduct awareness campaign on ESI/GPF in all the circle
offices to educate the employees about the schemes.
