Advertisement hoardings put up despite prohibition
Hardly a fortnight since the Commissioner of Belgaum
City Corporation (BCC) prohibited the display of advertisement hoardings
at selected circles in the city, hoardings have come up in Bogarves.
The
BCC has banned hoardings in Rani Chenamma Circle, Krishna Deva Raya
Circle (Kolhapur Circle), Sangolli Rayanna Circle (RTO Circle),
Dharmveer Sambhaji Circle (Bogarves) and Basaveshwar Circle (Goaves).
In
a press release issued on November 7, the Commissioner said areas had
been identified for the display of hoardings in different parts of the
city. Advertisers need to obtain permission from the BCC to display
hoardings at other places. Violation of the direction would invite
action under the Karnataka Open Places (Prevention of Disfiguration)
Act, 1981.
At least two hoardings have come up at Bogarves, announcing a body building championship to be held in the city.
When contacted, a BCC official told
The Hindu
that the decision to prohibit hoardings in certain areas was taken
following concerns expressed by Upa Lokayukta Subhash B. Adi during his
visit to the city.
Revenue Department officials will be asked to take action against those who have installed the hoardings, he added.
