Mayor boasts of ‘achievements’, tries to steal Admn thunder
At the fag-end of her term, Mayor Kamlesh listed out her achievements and the initiatives taken by her for the overall development of the city. The one-year term might have been dotted with controversies and tussles, but the Mayor said that she had no differences with councillors of the opposition or officials.
Addressing a press conference today, Kamlesh said her fight was not personal but of the issues. The Mayor might have had differences with the officials throughout the year, but today she stated that she had the support of officials and that is why she had been able to complete a large number of projects in the city.
“It was necessary to suspend councillors to handle the situation. However, to avoid any hurdles in the Mayoral elections, the order was revoked the next day,” she adds.
The Mayor, who represents Dadumajra, took a number of initiatives for the area including setting up a theme park, palm park, community parking, commissioning of canal water, new lake, etc. However, one issue that remains unsettled is the controversy over the garbage processing plant. No decision was taken on the functioning of the plant in the whole year.
Listing out her achievements, the Mayor said the projects started by her included Mahila Bhawan, new food streets, sale counters in city, booths in villages, community parking, policy for providing fountains in every sector, canal water supply to Manimajra, Dadumajra and Maloya, upgradation of stadiums in villages, martyrs gallery in Sector 33, construction and renovation of community centres and events organized for art and cultural promotion.
Some of the projects that the Mayor gave herself credit for were, however, initiatives of the Administration or proposed in the previous years. Solar city that has been proposed by the Administration and recently handed over to the MC found a mention in the list of her achievements. Public Partnership Initiative was also started by the Administration. A final decision on the setting up of the Fire Academy is yet to be taken. Installation of CCTV cameras in colonies for security purposes is a proposal that is in its initial stages.
Supporters give event a miss
The senior deputy Mayor H C Kalyan and deputy Mayor Vijay Rana were conspicuous by their absence. Not even a single Congress councillor was present. Mayor Kamlesh justified this by saying that the councillors were busy with the election campaign so could not be present. Municipal Commissioner Dr Roshan Sunkaria also chose to give the conference a miss.
MC cancels House meet
The Municipal Corporation has cancelled the House Meet that was scheduled for December 30 to approve the minutes of the meeting held in November. The last House Meeting held on December 24 had seen a lot of ruckus on the issue of presentation of the minutes. The councillors of the opposition had demanded that the minutes be presented in the House for approval so that the status of the exemption became clear. When the minutes were not presented ruckus was created in the House followed by the announcement of suspension of 11 councillors. After Babla surrendered on Monday, the meeting has been cancelled. The controversial minutes would be taken up in the House Meet after the elections.
