GHMC plans citizen service centres
HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to set up citizen service centres in all the 18 circle offices as well as the head office to facilitate easier interface of its services with the general public.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Mayor B. Kartika Chandra Reddy announced that the modalities are being worked out to set up such centres within a month or so. “Our objective is to provide time-bound solutions to the citizens without their need to run around offices,” she said, at her maiden press conference. Outsourced staff is to be hired for running these service centres where there will be complaint boxes as well as suggestion boxes for the convenience of the people. The citizen’s charter too will be displayed at the centres. Any certificate or permission can also be obtained using this facility.
Every day from 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. applications and complaints can be filed at the centres while the necessary certificates and permissions will be issued from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Any delay in issuing certificates or other documents will lead to payment of Rs. 50 a day to the petitioner as per the charter’s norms. One month in the hot seat, Ms. Reddy said she had become aware of the challenges faced by the civic staff and also the responsibilities that go with it. A two-day workshop will be conducted for newly elected corporators next week.
