HC issues notice to MCD commissioner
The Delhi High Court on Monday issued a contempt notice against MCD Commissioner K S Mehra for his alleged failure to comply with its previous order regarding the removal of encroachments in Sultanpuri area. The HC had earlier asked the MCD to remove the encroachments by slum dwellers in Sultanpuri and relocate them. “Issue a showcause notice to Commissioner MCD as to why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him…,” a Division Bench of Justice Vikramjeet Sen and Justice Manmohan Singh said in the order. The HC has now sought an explanation from the MCD chief by March 15. The Bench’s order came while hearing a matter related to the removal of illegal encroachments in the city, after the MCD filed an application seeking a further extension of two years for relocating the slum dwellers. On August 3 last year, the MCD had sought six weeks’ time to comply with the court’s order.
