New Delhi: The Central Information Commission has directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to disclose the total number of illegal cellular towers operating in different areas of the Capital and put all other relevant information about the towers on its website.
The matter came before Information Commissioner Shailesh Gandhi after the civic body did not provide satisfactory reply to an RTI applicant Karam Chand who had sought detailed information about the towers installed by telecom companies.
Chand had also asked the MCD to disclose the total number of towers it sanctioned in various zones, the company which has put up the towers, address of the location and fees paid to the civic body for installation.
Besides, he also sought the copy of guidelines for permitting installation of towers and details of action taken against MCD officers in areas where towers have come up without permission.
“The APIO Harminder Singh, EE (Building-HQ) is directed to provide the information mentioned above to the appellant before March 5. He is also directed to ensure the information is put up on its website before March 5,” Gandhi said in his order.
