According to the proposal mooted by councillor Arshad Khan, vehicle owners could be issued ‘smart cards’, which would be valid in all paid parking lots.
The proposal has suggested that an annual fee of Rs 500 could be taken from two-wheeler owners, Rs 1,500-2,000 from small car owners, Rs 2,000-3,000 from big car owners and Rs 3,500-5,000 from SUV owners.
A letter in this regard has been sent to Mayor Anu Chatrath and Municipal Commissioner Dr Roshan Sunkaria.
The proposal says the system would benefit those who park regularly in paid parking lots and generate revenue for the civic body.
At present, the MC charges Rs 150 for a monthly parking pass for four-wheelers and Rs 50 for two-wheelers.
Khan suggested that services like payment of road tax, getting pollution under control certificate and renewing vehicle insurance can be clubbed with the multi-utility card.
Incentives like monthly car wash and polish could be added to attract vehicle owners, Khan added.
With the card, according to the proposal, the civic body would be able to keep a tab on how much parking space is required in the city.
An MC official said the civic body would look into the proposal.
The MC, meanwhile, is preparing a proposal to convert all paid parking lots into electronic ones. This, according to officials, will streamline the parking system in the city and reduce the dependence on contractors.
The MC has already introduced a provision to impose fines on contractors for violating norms.
