Officials did not cooperate with me: outgoing Mayor

MYSORE: Outgoing Mayor Purushottam on Wednesday alleged that the officials of the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) did not cooperate with him during his tenure.
Corruption
“Corruption has seeped deep into the corporation. People often complain to us against the alleged corruption in the corporation,” he told presspersons here.
Mr. Purushottam, a Congress corporator from Ward 7 who completed one-year tenure as Mayor, alleged that the officials did not act responsibly and their non-cooperation with the elected representatives had its impact on the implementation of development projects.
Making a series of allegations against the officials of the corporation, the Mayor said that they had been clearing bills for works without inspecting them.
“We need a Commissioner who oversees the works properly,” he added.
Indirectly referring to the works under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission and award of contract for water distribution to JUSCO, he said that the elected representatives of the MCC were not taken into confidence on many affairs.
Meetings
The meetings were being held elsewhere, thus keeping the elected representatives in the dark.
Asked why he did not speak about the officials’ non-cooperation when he was in power, he said: “I had taken the officials to task on many occasions and even made them clear bills only after verifying the works.”
