Training for Corporation staff on census begins

MADURAI: Corporation Commissioner (in-charge) K. Tharpagaraj inaugurated a training programme for the staff, who would carry out door-to-door enumeration for the census work, here on Monday.
He said that about 2,500 enumerators and supervisors would be assigned the task of gathering details required for the national census to be carried out from June 1 to July 15. The training would be conducted by 35 senior trainers in three batches till May 12, covering all the four zones, at four Corporation schools.
The enumerators would be taught about their duties and responsibilities, among others. The trainees would have to appear for a test at the end of the training programme and subsequently collect the material on May 27 and 28.
A unique feature about the census is that the enumerators would obtain the thumb impression of the residents. The Commissioner in-charge appealed to the public to cooperate with the enumerators for the successful completion of the census.
Corporation officials Ammayyapan, S.P. Rajagandhi, U. Angayarkanni, PRO R. Baskaran among others participated in the session held at Kakkai Padiniyaar Girls Higher Secondary School, a release said.
